Happy Birthday Hayden Cash

Cash turned one today! Jodie made the coolest little cake. Henry and Hayden are still rocking the sugar high from the frosting.

I really like to tease. It’s just fun. Just ask my sister-in-law Jenny. Its especially fun to tease people who don't take teasing very well. I know it’s a problem but it really is just too enjoyable. I have to be really careful not to get carried away with Jodie as I think deep down she likes it. But there has been a few times where she has been less than happy about some teasing that took place in front of friends or family. One great tease is to stick your finger in someone’s food. This was a really effective ice-breaker my first Christmas with my new in-laws about 2 months after being married. Shortly after the prayer was offered on Christmas dinner and my sister-in-law Jenny had served up her mother’s famous mashed potatoes I reached over and stuck my finger right in the middle of them. It’s kind of like the shock and awe strategy. Everyone got a kick out of it (but Jenny) and I get to be the 'fun loving brother/son-in-law. Win win right?

So yesterday we had a great time; out and about all day in the nice weather with our boys. We ran errands and kept the boys entertained all day all while trying to stay out of the house till 5:45 when Jodie needed to drop some cookies off at the church. We got to the church a little early and I was playing a little game with Henry called "slow...... slow....... slow..... FAST! It’s pretty basic really. You drive really slow while saying "slow" and then drive fast for a second or two while saying "fast." Now Henry knows about going slow and fast. Jodie wasn't sure the church parking lot was the place for this (or driving up and over the old snow piles left over from the winter) but I was having a good time and couldn't see how any of this was harmful, after all we were the only ones there. Some more playful teasing and Jodie had thrown my wallet out the car window and we were all having a great time. A few minutes later the people we were meeting at the church had shown up and we drove over to drop off the cookies. Jodie got out to get the cookies out of the back seat and I just couldn't help myself. I lurched forward as she tried to open the door. It was great, she felt silly, a few people saw and I got a great laugh. The next time she actually had opened the door and I pulled forward again. As you see from the video it actually gets funnier each time you do it. It’s one of the few jokes that get funnier and funnier. Well for me it was only funny once as the second time I pulled forward I ran over my wife's foot! To be clear I actually stopped on her foot and then had to back off of it. She kept a straight face till we dropped the cookies off and could get out of the parking lot but boy was she in some pain. She actually did such a good job of keeping a straight face in front of the ward member that I thought she had actually gotten the last laugh and maybe I actually had not gotten her foot.

Luckily for me I have a very understanding wife.....and she has a very helpful visiting teacher that could hang out at our house while I took Jodie to the ER. No broken bones but a very swollen foot with some black and blue mixed in.
